Kyontha D. Nelson, Esq. is an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General in Nashville, TN, where she represents state government agency clients such as TN Department of Transportation, TN Safety and Homeland Security, TN Bureau of Investigations, and TN Wildlife Resource Agency in tort and worker’s compensation claims. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Attorney Nelson served as a Deputy District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, where she practiced as a felony prosecutor. During the course of her career as a prosecutor, Attorney Nelson has tried over 40 jury trials, ranging from property crimes and aggravated robberies, to domestic violence-related assaults and first-degree murder. Attorney Nelson began her career as an Assistant City Attorney with the City of Aurora in Colorado, where she focused heavily on domestic violence- related crime while prosecuting local municipal ordinance violations.

Attorney Nelson is a graduate of Florida A&M University and the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in Denver, Colorado. In addition to her capacity as the Recording Secretary of the Napier-Looby Bar Association, Attorney Nelson is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, and University of Denver Sturm College of Law Alumni Council. Attorney Nelson currently serves the National Black Prosecutors Foundation as the organization’s Treasurer.
