Kyontha Nelson

Kyontha D. Nelson is an Assistant District Attorney General for Office of the District Attorney General/Nashville -Davidson County, recently joining the office after serving as an Assistant Attorney General at the Office of the Tennessee Attorney General. Prior to joining the Tennessee Bar, Kyontha served as a Deputy District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Colorado, where she practiced as a felony prosecutor.  During the course of her career in prosecution, Kyontha has tried over 40 jury trials, ranging from property crimes and aggravated robberies, to domestic violence-related assaults and first-degree murder.  Kyontha began her career as an Assistant City Attorney with the City of Aurora in Colorado, focusing heavily on domestic violence-related crime while prosecuting local municipal ordinance violations. Kyontha is a graduate of Florida A&M University and the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in Denver, Colorado.
 
Throughout her career, Kyontha has served in a number of leadership roles in local and national black legal associations. Kyontha has served as the National Black Prosecutors Association’s Regional Director, Vice President of Long-Range Planning, and Organizational Development & Leadership Committee Chair, spearheading the association’s inaugural five-year strategic plan. She has also raised and awarded scholarships to aspiring black prosecutors while serving as Treasurer of the National Black Prosecutors Foundation. Kyontha is currently the Recording Secretary of the Napier Looby Bar Association and Delegate of the Tennessee Alliance of Black Lawyers.
